How to mix tempera paint
2 min readDry time: About 30 minutes
Tempera covers both traditional egg tempera and the poster-style tempera used in schools and studios. Both dry quickly and suit flat, bright color.
Why tempera mixes differently
Tempera dries fast and works best in thin layers. Thick layers can crack or flake. Colors are usually bright and opaque, and like other water-based paints they can look slightly different once dry.
Ratios that work
Mix small batches you can use quickly, and keep a damp cloth over your palette. Build darker or richer color with several thin layers instead of one heavy one.
How Palette Master handles tempera
Choose tempera and recipes are adjusted for it, with a 30 minute dry time shown on the Mix screen. Wait for the paint to dry before you check your match.
